Ulysse Nardin Minute Repeater features gold cranes that move up and down in time to the chimes of the minute repeater. The glimmering champlevé rig, rises majestically from the black sea, with its delicately wrought waves in the foreground, while in the background, another golden rig works industriously away.
The champlevé enamel technique is a difficult art to master. There are only a handful of artisans in the world who can work with this 12th-century technique. The three-step process starts with the engraver drawing and carving the desired design on a gold plate in 3-D form. Then it goes to the enameler, who fills the shapes with different colored enamels. The third and final step involves the engraver bringing the polished dial to life by chiseling away the burned enamel.
The North Sea Minute Repeater is powered by Ulysse Nardin’s Caliber UN-73 manual winding movement. It offers a 36-hour power reserve, hour and minute function, and minute repeater function along with animated Jaquemarts. Limited to just 18 pieces, the watch comes with a black leather strap with a gold folding buckle.
