The trend of Swiss watch industry exports remained strong in August with growth close to the figure announced in July. Their value rose by 5.5% during the eighth month of the year to reach 1.5 billion francs. The cumulative figure for watch industry exports since January now stands at 13.8 billion francs (+9.5% against January-August 2017.Precious metal and bimetal watches reported higher than average growth. Products in steel also made a significant contribution to the overall increase in value, despite a weaker advance (+3.0%). Volumes were lower, especially for the Other metals and Other materials categories. Watches priced at less than 500 francs (export price) reported a significant downturn in August, in terms of both value (-10.2%) and number of pieces (-9.0%). Above the 500 francs mark, the value of exported timepieces rose by 7.7%.
