To mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission, Omega Introduced “The Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8” at BaselWorld 2018.The Appollo crew were the first to ever see the dark side of the moon.The entire watch is produced in black ceramic and the dial has been expertly skeletonised to reveal a blackened movement inside. Impressively, the movement has been laser-ablated to produce realistic imagery of the lunar surface.
The chronograph hands are varnished yellow, while the watch’s tachymeter scale and crown are filled with white Super-LumiNova. The Speedmaster and Tachymetre words also appear in yellow.
Powered with the decorated version of the famous Moonwatch calibre 1861 called 1869 as a tribute to the first moon landing which beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour, and a power reserve of 48 hours which is water resistant to 50 metres.
Watchbazar liked the transparent case back with the engraved “WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE” these words were spoken by Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell on board the Apollo 8 mission at the start of the crew’s pioneering orbit to the dark side of the moon.
The watch sports a black leather strap with yellow stitching and a yellow rubber core.
