Watchbazar brings you our compilations of the top most expensive watches and take solace in the fact that most of them already have owners 🙁
Jaeger lecoultre 101 manchette
Only when Jaeger-LeCoultre‘s tiny Calibre 101 is seen to scale – alongside a pencil lead or a match head – can you fully grasp the level of skill required for the minute mechanics in the movement, created in back in 1929. With its 98 components condensed down to a thickness of just 3.4 mm, the mammoth scale of the complexity required is completely hidden from view, all the better to be slipped into a diamond pavé cuff. It’s usually housed in a slimmer gemstone bracelet, but the iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre 101 Calibre gains a supersize setting in the Joaillerie 101 Manchette cuff, born of a fusion between watchmaking and fine jewelry to produce a white gold checkerboard bracelet in a tiny case nestled amongst the diamonds and gray gold .
1) 576 diamonds and 18-carat white gold;
2) 400 diamonds and 11 onyx cabochons.
A silver-colored dial with a sapphire crystal and a winding crown on the case back makes the watch really impressive.
Ulysse Nardin Royal Blue Tourbillon – 43mm 799-92
Royal Blue Tourbillon timepiece from Ulysse Nardin. In a limited edition of 99 watches, it has a royal blue dial that depicts a flying tourbillon as well as the winding of the movement through a circular rack mechanism. Diamonds and light blue sapphires dot its inside bezel. An alligator strap with deployment clasp holds its platinum 950 case. Technical refinement is exhibited by its mechanical 12¼” UN-79 caliber, power reserve of 100 hours, and 30m water resistance. A screw down crown lets you adjust the time.
“Hallucination” by Graff Diamonds
The $55 million dollar Hallucination watch, which is described as an exceptionally rare, multi-coloured diamond timepiece, Featuring a stunning kaleidoscope of over 110 carats of extraordinarily rare coloured diamonds, the Graff Hallucination takes jewellery watchmaking to an unprecedented new level.Based on a concept developed by Laurence Graff, chairman of Graff Diamonds, the finished timepiece is the culmination of thousands of hours of work by Graff’s highly skilled team of designers, gemologists and master craftsmen.
Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime 5175
The Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime took 8 years for development, and houses 20 complications in 1,366 parts. Two of the complications are actually the first of their kind. The 47mm case only took 4 years to develop and has an additional 214 components, which is more than what most movements have. Apart from being technically masterful, the case is a hand-engraved triumph. Chiseled by hand under a microscope, it is an ornate centerpiece of 18K rose gold. The bezel is carved out into a circular laurel wreath with coin-edge ribbing around its perimeter. This Hellenic motif extends to the lugs, which also have a functional aspect to them. The lugs double as an axis for the case and allow it to rotate longitudinally between the front and back dial. Thus, the watch can be worn with either dial displayed.
Vacheron Tour de lIle
Research and development for the Tour de lIle started in early 2000 resulting in the hand wind calibre 2750 featuring 834 parts, and an assembly which can take up to 5 months! To house the 16 complications Vacheron chose to have a 2 sided display in a 47mm rose gold case.For a watch with 16 complications and 11 hands the Tour de lIle is surprisingly an extremely legible timepiece.Furthermore the aesthetic exclusivity is enhanced by the hands inspired from a model dating from 1926 and which also can uniquely be found in the anniversary models. Finally a secret signature, which can be only seen with a loupe, is engraved on the dial at 12 oclock representing the anniversary date: 1755-2005.
Franck Muller Aeternitas Mega 4
This one gets the tag of the world most complicated watch,36 complications, 25 of them visible, 1,483 components, a 1000-year calendar, a price tag of 2.7 million dollars, and 5 years’ work: what others have simply dreamed of, Franck Muller has made a reality! Never has the Maison de Haute Horlogerie better deserved its name of “Master of Complications”, pulverising the record number of complications ever housed in a single wristwatch.The Mega 4 represents the apotheosis of the art of watchmaking with its grand and small Westminster chime striking-work, the only one available on the market with a tourbillon visible on the dial. Added to this are a minute repeater, a mono-pushpiece split-seconds chronograph, a perpetual calendar secular, and an equation of time which only varies by 6.8 seconds per lunar month, the equivalent of one day every thousand years! Although the first piece of this exceptional, limited series was presented to an American collector at a ceremony in Monaco last November, the Master Watchmakers of Genthod are already putting the finishing touches to a second Aeternitas Mega 4, which will be available in the very near future.
WatchBazar feels there are many intricate details in million dollar watches like expensive stones, diamonds gems and tourbillions. These complexities definitely increase the selling price of these expensive watches in the world.
