The moment Kobe Bryant announced his retirement, he chose those two sentences to define his 20 years in Los Angeles, bannering them on the home page of his website, explaining them in a box of text.
“No hero is perfect, and no villain is completely void of heroic intentions. We all live as both. What sets the great ones apart is how they use their inner villain to create something epic. It’s living as a HeroVillain. The HeroVillain channels fear, rejection, anger and doubt and turns them into strength, courage, power and determination.’
The Classic Fusion Kobe Bryant “HeroVillain” watch embodies Bryant’s constant balance of being the athlete you either loved or hated for a span of 20 years. Also celebrating the redesign of Hublot’s Beverly Hills Boutique, the watch is limited to just 24 pieces with Kobe owning a special #24 edition. The collaborative timepiece hosts black and gold hues that can be seen on its ceramic body while additional details include a black snake applique as a nod to Bryant’s killer “Black Mamba” nickname. Each piece is also engraved with individual numbering spanning from 1/24 to 24/24 and is supported by a black python strap with tonal stitching.
The new Hublot is the third one to come out from Bryant’s collaboration with Hublot; they have previously teamed up for Black Mamba and Vino watches in 2013 and 2015 respectively. The name “HeroVillain” itself is derived from Bryant’s two personas as a basketball player.
Only 24 watches to be sold @ at US$ 20,400 a piece.
